The Importance of Being Pretty

Posted by Andrew Davies

I just got the October issue of Print Magazine in the mail and the Monologue by Jeremy Lehrer deals with the role of interaction design in saving the planet.

The entire article is worth reading, if you can get your hands on it, but I found this section particularly interesting:

“There is some kind of subconscious gratification to knowing that you’re modifying your behavior,” says Marc Alt, a sustainability consultant who has organized conferences on green design. “But this is the unnerving aspect of the global warming issue. Humans are very quick at changing their behavior, but they only change their behavior if they can see the immediate impact. Alt worries that because we’re unable to see how our lifestyles are causing sea levels to rise, for instance, we don’t recognize the urgency of changing the way we live. Interaction design is ideal for developing behavior-modification tools that can put a little Pavlov into the green lifestyle…”

Keeping up with the Greens

Posted by Andrew Davies

The tidal wave of Green-related events, articles and other resources keeps piling on, and it’s beginning to feel like it’ll take a full-time job just to keep track of them all. The most recent ones to come across our short attention spans are Greengaged, a series of workshops, exhibitions and classes being put on by the Design Council in the UK.

Welcome to our newly-youthful-looking blog.
We hope you like it!

Paragon celebrated its 7th Birthday this past weekend, and in honor of that special occasion we figured we needed to do a bit of cosmetic e-surgery. You know how it is…over time things tend to sag a bit…

Not only have we spit-shined the blog, but we’re also rolling out our new website on September 1st. We hope you’ll make a point to check it out when it “drops”. You can be sure that once that beast is slain, we’ll be doing a bit ‘o braggin’ on it right here, so keep and eye out for that post.

Poke around and have a look. We’d love to hear what you think!

Business Card Business

Posted by Angel Ratcliffe

I’m staring at this towering stack of 3.5 x 2 inch cards on my desk, wondering what I should do with them. My first notion is to throw them all away. I mean, I haven’t looked at many of them in a year. How often have I really contacted people from their business cards? Especially with most businesses having websites and all. They’re really just keepsakes that you hold on to indefinitely. I wonder how often I’ve been contacted from a business card, because I pass mine out like Starbrite peppermints from Grandma’s hard candy bowl.

But the thought of me desperately needing to reach someone whose contact information is not in my email address book, Google contact list, or blackberry terrifies me to no end. According to Murphy’s First Law, the law by which many of our lives are ruled from time to time, as soon as I tossed them in our “paper only” trash can an important matter would ironically pop out of no where and I wouldn’t have the contact information that was so neatly compiled on that convenient little card.
