As a newbie to the world of design, it blows my mind how much of a social impact the design industry can have. One of the many examples is this awesome charitable organization called Project H Design founded by San Francisco designer/entrepreneur Emily Pilloton. She started this organization to apply product design solutions to social issues in ways that would improve the lives of people across the globe. There are many initiatives spear-headed by Project H, including a product called Life Straw, a filtration device designed to eliminate waterborne disease bacteria, parasites, and viruses. This well designed product brings clean drinking water quickly and reliably into homes, preventing life-threatening disease from spreading through unclean water. Its amazing!

In light of the writer’s strike in Hollywood, it’s nice to know that our vocabulary is rich enough to be able sustain an entire commercial with one word.

Motion Graphics in Music Videos: Love Stoned

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

I know I’m late but I just saw this Justin Timberlake video and was floored by the sleek use of a simple visual device: The audio waveform in black space. This literally gives you an idea of what the song looks and feels like and it managed to keep my attention all the way up to that end part.

Anyone know who did this?

Just found this magazine’s site while perusing Inc.com’s best 30 under 30 list.
In a media landscape saturated with all that’s bad in the world, it’s refreshing to find an outlet that’s out to project the Good News.
I especially liked this piece of motion graphics on the U.N. Millenium Declaration. Subtle and informative, played over an African track with voice over by former U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan, this piece underscores the theme of the magazine and web site; as the site itself says, it’s “media for people who give a damn.”

God Bless Horatio Caine

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Around here, we have a deep and abiding love/respect/admiration for the TV show CSI:Miami, not because of the action, crime solving techniques or orangey-blue glow of every scene, but because of the sweet genius that is every word that falls from the lips of David Caruso’s character, Horatio Caine.

Horatio is a man, nay a legend, who can take an situation and sum it up in one sentence while putting on his sun-glasses and exiting stage right. He has also been know to strike some fantastic poses that I am embarrassed to admit, we’ve intentionally emulated around the office from time to time. We’ve considered collecting this man’s pearls of wisdom and editing them together ourselves, however we came across this video on YouTube posted by stewmurray47.

Behold “CSI Miami - Endless Caruso One Liners”

Oh…and in case you needed one more hit, there is also this jewel posted by jhohcable; “David Caruso parks his car”. I swear this happens to me every single morning…
