No Rain or Thunderstorms can Stop a Party Here, especially a free one!

We’ve been having a few sever thunderstorms here over the last coupla days. But in spite of the rain, we were still able to enjoy the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of our Hispanic neighbors, put on display this past weekend on River Street.

Its that time of year again where the fashion elite gather in Savannah for the annual SCAD Fashion show, the culmination of SCAD’s annual style and design series, SCAD Style 2008. World-renowned artists, designers and industry professionals come to get a taste what SCAD’s fashion design students have cooking up this year.

The SCAD Annual Sidewalk Arts Festival

This past weekend, The Savannah College of Art and Design held its annual Sidewalk Arts Festival in Forsyth Park. It’s an event I enjoy every year (and not just because I get a nifty free T-Shirt for being an alumnus). The event is always extremely well attended, both by students and wanna-be artists, as well as the community in general.

Why I love Living in Savannah: Reason 3

Where else can you see these 3 Divas in one weekend?

smf_divas.jpg

This past weekend the wife and I had the pleasure of seeing Audra McDonald, Anna Moura and Angelique Kidjo at the Savannah Music Festival, all in the space of 24 hours. Each year I’m amazed at the quantity and quality of acts the SMF brings in to town, and giving us the chance to experience, fado style singing, Broadway classics and Afro Pop in one weekend (sometimes in one night) is why it’s one of the reasons I’m glad to call this place home.

Local Design: Judge Realty

Monday, March 31st, 2008

We went out to lunch last Friday on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and walked past what I thought were band gig posters. On closer inspection it turned out to be a bit of clever advertising for a local realtor Judge Realty.
The property’s for lease and they decided to stand out from the crowd.
(I apologize for the picture quality, they were snapped with my phone).

What I love about this (other than it being non-traditional and creative) is that it fits the vibe of the location this building is in. Kudos to whoever’s in charge of making the marketing decisions over there for understanding that and taking a calculated risk with this approach.

More pics of the site can be found here on their website.

Coming Attractions: UnCon ‘08

UnCon08.jpg

It would be remiss for us to not mention the return of the event that brought about the Paragon Muse 1 year ago. That’s right, BlogSavannah’s UnConference 2008 is just around the corner. It was at last year’s event that the 3 of us discovered the wonderous blogosphere and inspired us to jump in head first.

This year’s schedule looks to be just as informative.

The Orange Step - Interview

Friday, October 26th, 2007

As promised, here is an interview with Kiril Jeliazkov where he talks about the inspiration for The Orange Step , why he chosen to bring the project to Savannah, and what went into installing it in Forsyth Park.
The show will remain up until October 30th, so if you haven’t seen it yet or you’d like to visit it again, you’ve got a few more days to enjoy it.

The Orange Step

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

Kudos to our buddy from College, Kiril Jeliazkov who has brought his amazing outdoor contemporary art exhibition entitled The Orange Step , to Savannah. This unique art project that consists of 128 canvases each 20ft tall and 10ft wide, is designed to be displayed in natural settings, creating a juxtaposition between the art and nature. It was designed as a complete set, but each piece is a stand alone work of art, that holds up on its own.

Kiril is a dedicated painter, who for as long as we’ve known him has always been a big thinker…you know, one of those people who is convinced that he can pull off anything, no matter how intimidating. If you’ve ever met him, you’d know that unlike most fine artists, he’s charming and charismatic, able to make friends easily, and more importantly, able to enthrall you with tales of his latest endeavor in a most entertaining way.

They know how to pull out the Welcome Wagon

OddPodzWelcome.jpg

We had the pleasure of going to the launch/ welcome-to-the-neighborhood party for one of the newest creative businesses moving to our area, Oddpodz. A social networking site for creative professionals.

Part of why I love it here is that you’re constantly reminded that you do business with people not corporate entities. So it was great not only to meet the lovely ladies behind Oddpodz but to have some face-time with other like-minded local business people. Thanks to the TCCi and Oddpodz for the great time and here’s to Oddpodz’ longevity.

Shameless Promotion Vol4: Home ECOnomics Open

We recently had the opportunity to work with some neighbors of ours, Farmers Almanac TV on one of their new show segments. Since we’ve begun the process of “greening” our practice, the theme of this particular segment, Home ECOnomics, was quite close to our hearts. It’s hosted by Melaver, Inc.’s Head of Sustainable Initiatives, Tommy Linstroth.
