Toot, toot!

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

That’s the sound of us blowing our own horn. These posts are usually named, “Shameless Promotion.” Well, forget that.. What’s improper about stepping back and taking a good look at the fruit of your labor? And then showing it off to everyone else? It’s kinda like when people go around showing everyone pictures of their newborn baby. Like, “Hey, look what I made!” I’m guilty of it myself.

2008’s starting off with a bang!
We just finished this album cover for Gospel artist, Euclid Gray that used some new skills learned from the blogosphere.

The circular swirly shapes I learned from Go Media’s video tutorial on Intricate Illustrator Patterns

The photo retouching and color treatment effect I learned from this tutorial from PSDTuts.

and the grunge edge effects around the edges thanks to BitBox

Thanks for sharing guys!

Shameless Promotion Vol5: Design Case Study

design case study

Tara over at Graphic Design Blog has a series going on called Design Case Studies where designers can share the process behind some of their projects. I just submitted a branding project I did a while back, when I was at MadGENIUS Inc.

Besides the free exposure, it’s a great feeling to be a part of contributing to the sharing going on in the Graphic Design world. Participating in the community is why we do this blogging thing anyway.
Plus there’s the advantage of getting feedback on your work from people other than your clients. I’d recommend other designers join in the fun.

Shameless Promotion Vol4: Home ECOnomics Open

We recently had the opportunity to work with some neighbors of ours, Farmers Almanac TV on one of their new show segments. Since we’ve begun the process of “greening” our practice, the theme of this particular segment, Home ECOnomics, was quite close to our hearts. It’s hosted by Melaver, Inc.’s Head of Sustainable Initiatives, Tommy Linstroth.

TCCi blog

How busy do you have to be to have another blog post about your own project before you do? Thankfully, pretty darn busy.
But it was a great opportunity to offer our services to The Creative Coast Initiative by designing their blog’s new theme.
Coding expertly done by Chris from the shiny new Nicasio Design.

CD_awards.jpg

We just found out that our lil’ muse header was deemed Creative Design worthy by David Airey himself in his inaugural Creative Design Awards.
To say we’re deeply honored is an understatement. Thanks David!

Definitely check out his other Awardees:

  • Jen Huls’ Pop Stalin Design website
(I already subscribe to this one and it’s worth the read)
  • Aaron Russel’s iPod / Napoleon Dynamite advert
(having watched this movie for the first time this past weekend and an After Effects enthusiast myself, I found this satisfying on so many levels)
  • Anonymous’ The Paper Bull blog
  • Phil Renaud’s Blogging the Light Fantastic
  • But also take a browse through David’s Archives and portfolio. He’s a keen eye and intelligent take on this design world we share.
