This is just a quick shout-out to my good friend Craig who has just embarked on a 90 day journey around the world (well mostly Asia anyway) and decided to blog (myninetydays.com) about it. We’ve been friends for quite a number of years…he’s a fellow West Indian, who has roots in Barbados, Grenada, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines like me.

(For those of you who don’t know…”West Indies” is the geographical term for the Caribbean islands, and originated from Christopher Columbus’ “discovery” of what he thought was Asia, or the East Indies. When at cocktail parties, you can impress people from this region by referring to them as “West Indians” rather than “Caribbeans” or any of the other weird terms I’ve heard since living in the US. Around here, we have a deep and abiding love/respect/admiration for the TV show CSI:Miami, not because of the action, crime solving techniques or orangey-blue glow of every scene, but because of the sweet genius that is every word that falls from the lips of David Caruso’s character, Horatio Caine.

Horatio is a man, nay a legend, who can take an situation and sum it up in one sentence while putting on his sun-glasses and exiting stage right. He has also been know to strike some fantastic poses that I am embarrassed to admit, we’ve intentionally emulated around the office from time to time. We’ve considered collecting this man’s pearls of wisdom and editing them together ourselves, however we came across this video on YouTube posted by stewmurray47.

Oh…and in case you needed one more hit, there is also this jewel posted by jhohcable; “David Caruso parks his car”. I swear this happens to me every single morning…

June 9th was the perfect day for eating ice cream…and by perfect I mean it was 102 degrees here in Savannah. It was also a fun day to find yourself in the vicinity of Leopold’s Ice Cream on Broughton street, for the arrival of around 40 Mini’s as they participated in The Great Ice Cream run, motoring their way from Sanford, Florida to Bar Harbor, Maine, and raising funds for the Make A Wish Foundation.

The Psychotronic Film Society of Savannah

THE place to watch the films, documentaries and fringe movies you wouldn’t otherwise see in the theaters. A Couple nights ago the wife and I saw “Ralph Nader:An Unreasonable Man”, a bio doc on the man on whom a lot of people seem to have a lot of strong opinions. I’d definitely recommend any and everyone see it regardless of your political views. What I took from the evening, though, had less to do with the subject of the pic than the general moral of the story:

The annual Savannah Asian Festival , held this past weekend at the Civic Center.

As a designer I’ve often thought that inspiration’s everywhere but sometimes it doesn’t jump out and bite you, you have to go looking for it. For those of us who don’t have the luxury of a travel budget it’s always great when the patterns, textures, sounds, smells (i.e. inspiration) from other cultures comes to your doorstep. Enjoy!

Where else could you see a 30 Mini motorcade, eat home-made ice cream and get the skinny on the upcoming Star Trek movie all on the same day.

We were fortunate enough to witness the opening leg of the Great Ice Cream run here in Savannah, an event important enough to draw, producer of MI:3,Stratton Leopold from LA in the middle of pre-pro of Star Trek XI.

It’s disappointing how many examples of corrupt corporate culture appear to be in the world. I know nothing can be perfect, and god knows I certainly don’t claim to be the perfect at what I do, but it means a lot to me that my 2 business partners are the same folks that I love to spend my time off with. Not because we talk about work (which we don’t…OK sometimes), but because we have such a good time working together and truly care for and respect each other. We’re family. Sappy I know…but it’s the truth. And I’ve discovered more and more that this is not as common as it should be.

I regularly checkout the adgoodness blog for some great advertising inspiration and more often than not the more ingenius solutions are played out outdoors. I guess because there’s such an open palette of objects and contexts to play with compared to the limitations of the more traditional avenues like magazine, newspaper or TV.

We’ve been absent from the blog for a while but so it goes when the pressure is on at our day jobs.
Anyway, among the cool stuff going on in Paragonia is an upcoming event tomorrow for Mini enthusiasts called The Great Ice Cream Run.
