Local Design: Leoci’s Trattoria

Posted by Andrew Davies

Downtown natives have probably already noticed the newest addition to our restaurant selections, Leoci’s just around the corner from us on Abercorn Street. We’re always glad to see existing buildings being rennovated and reused, especially when they serve up sumptuous Italian food. But what really excited me (after I got over the smell of basil in the air) was their logo. Anyone know who’s responsible?

New Site Launched: Goose Feathers Cafe

Posted by Andrew Davies

New look but the same owners and, of course, the same great food and service! That’s the idea behind the refresh of Express Cafe’s, now Goose Feathers, brand and web presence. Since Michael and Beth were planning on renaming the cafe, they thought it was a perfect time to redo it’s look as well. The challenge was in updating the brand of a Savannah institution without throwing away the equity they’ve built up already.

After revising their logo we set off with the new website, incorporating the decor of the cafe into the design but keeping the structure simple and easy to navigate. We built this on our favorite CMS, Wordpress, of course so they have complete control over their content.

Local Design: Midnight Garden Ride flyer

Posted by Andrew Davies

I was passing by the bulletin board at one of the local Ys and saw this little gem for the upcoming Midnight Garden Ride. The simplicity of the layout, and tasful choice of fonts and illustrations caught my eye amidst all of the usual home-made looking flyers that populate a public bulletin board. I’m not sure who’s responsible but the only design-related company listed on the back was BighLittleH. So kudos to you Heidi, if this is your handy work and if not…. well please pass our appreciation on.

An Evening with the Loci Design Gallery

Posted by Andrew Davies

This past Friday night we had the great honor of getting a personalized tour of the Loci Design Gallery.

Designed and built by one of Susan’s architecture professors Tim Woods, the LDG is an example of a LOCI MODular home; created to be flexible, affordable and above all else sustainable.

More pictures after the jump but for a better look and deeper understanding of this great concept check out his website.

Dear Mama, You are appreciated…

Posted by Angel Ratcliffe

Mothers Day

That’s right guys, Mother’s Day will soon be here. What are you going to get the woman who endured the painstaking stresses of giving birth to you, made sure your nose was snot-free, that boo-boos and ouchies were kissed and cared for, and forced you to eat brussel sprouts and carrots to keep your colon and vision healthy and strong? My Mom has a smart, eclectic style so I can’t just walk into a Hallmark Store and find her the “perfect gift.” Also, with me being the oldest, my ego won’t allow for my gift to not be the most favored out of the three.

Then there is the Mother we all have in common. The life-giving nurturer and sustainer of life, Mother Earth. Since the beginning of time she has given our biosphere the necessities for existence. So, I’ve been searching for gifts that are unique, functional, well designed, and also green, to show my appreciation for my Mom as well as Mother Earth. Here are some cool sites with products that incorporate all of these elements:

Local Design: Judge Realty

Posted by Andrew Davies

We went out to lunch last Friday on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and walked past what I thought were band gig posters. On closer inspection it turned out to be a bit of clever advertising for a local realtor Judge Realty.
The property’s for lease and they decided to stand out from the crowd.
(I apologize for the picture quality, they were snapped with my phone).

What I love about this (other than it being non-traditional and creative) is that it fits the vibe of the location this building is in. Kudos to whoever’s in charge of making the marketing decisions over there for understanding that and taking a calculated risk with this approach.

More pics of the site can be found here on their website.
