Savannah ADDY recap 2010

Posted by Andrew Davies

This past weekend was the Annual ADDY awards ceremony for AAF Savannah and it was one of the most interactive and fun ADDYs I’ve been to in a long time.

First of all, there was the controversial Center Piece design competition. Regardless of who won, we had a blast diving into this crazy challenge. Kudos to the committee or whoever’s silly idea this was. Giving creatives a visual challenge and motivating them with booze? Brilliant!

Of course it didn’t hurt that we got a few awards on top of it all. In addition to our own prizes we also semi-indirectly won other awards for projects we participated in through other companies. The tally follows:

Ours

SEDA Annual Report (bronze)

New Show Packaged: Cantore Stories

Posted by Andrew Davies

open_04
If you were watching the Weather Channel this past Sunday then you caught one of their latest programs, Cantore Stories. Putting aside our unhealthy fascination with Jim Cantore, we were pleased as punch to have been tapped by The Weather Channel to help brand and package another one of their HD shows.

After designing the logo for the show, we basically provided them with a kit of motion graphic parts from which they could assemble transitions, promos and other sequences to their hearts’ content. The particular challenge with this show was that each episode focuses on a different location and so would need its own customized end title treatment to correspond to that weather type. Now it wouldn’t have been efficient to have us produce every single one of the show’s necessary parts, so we ended up creating templates based on 4 major color schemes which would give their team of animators the ability to create future Show elements for any weather condition.

Part of why we love  these bigger projects is that it proves we can work on cool broadcast design stuff for national clients, all from the comfort of our humble, quaint office here in good ol’ Savannah, GA.

Tools of choice: 3D elements were created in Cinema4D and the rest (including the simulated weather elements) was created in After Effects.

New Site Launch: Stone Edge Technologies

Posted by Andrew Davies

Visit their new site here >>

We met John and Barney from Stone Edge Technologies, based in Plymouth Meeting PA, last year when we spoke at the 2009 CV3 User Conference. We hit it off instantly and so we were very pleased when they called on us recently to help redesign their website.  They wanted the site to focus more on their flagship product, the Order Management software for small to medium online retailers.

We particularly loved working on this project for a few reasons:

1. We get to help out some friends.

2. We got to sink our teeth into some great site architecture redesign. Not only did their site need a face-lift, but it also needed some content re-arrangement to make it more usable. We looked at the goals John and Barney had for their web presence as well as their existing content and shuffled pages, categories and labels around to help get their users straight to the information they wanted.

3. We’re suckers for a nifty “Before and After” story

New Site Launched: Goose Feathers Cafe

Posted by Andrew Davies

goosefeathers_home

New look but the same owners and, of course, the same great food and service! That’s the idea behind the refresh of Express Cafe’s, now Goose Feathers, brand and web presence. Since Michael and Beth were planning on renaming the cafe, they thought it was a perfect time to redo it’s look as well. The challenge was in updating the brand of a Savannah institution without throwing away the equity they’ve built up already.

After revising their logo we set off with the new website, incorporating the decor of the cafe into the design but keeping the structure simple and easy to navigate. We built this on our favorite CMS, Wordpress, of course so they have complete control over their content.

Shameless Promotion: 4 New Websites Launched

Posted by Andrew Davies

Since we haven’t done this in a while, and because we have a few sites to announce, we thought it was time to blow our own horn a bit with some of our latest web launches.

1. Tasty eCommerce: Coffaros Baking Co.

coffaros
Through our friends at CommerceV3, we redesigned the online storefront for Auburn Washington based Coffaros Baking Co. This authenticly family owned establishment had us drolling just working on the project.

You can visit the site here.

2. Keeping it Natural and Local: Earth to Table Catering

earth2table

Those who know us know about our passion for all things sustainable so we jumped at the chance to sink our teeth into rebranding  Cha Bella restaurant’s catering division. As the name suggests, the food they serve is grown locally some of it on their own farm.

You can check them out here.

3. God Bless the Interweb: Christ Church Episcopal

cce

Our friends at Christ Church Episcopal entrusted us with the sacred task of creating a new look for their church website. This is what Michael White, the Rector had to say about the experience:

In 2009, a key strategic priority for Christ Church Episcopal was to develop a very professional, yet appealing website to effectively communicate to our parishioners, the local community and The Episcopal Church, at large.

We appointed a strong committee of business leaders and clergy to select a design firm and work with them in the development of the site. After an exhaustive search, our committee selected Paragon Design Group in Savannah, Georgia.

We could not be more pleased with the quality and appeal of our updated website (www.christepiscopalsavannah.org ). We have received an unprecedented number of “rave” reviews from throughout The Episcopal Church and even thoughout the world. Our hit rate has exceeded every expectation. With the help of Paragon and Google Analytics we are now developing strategies to further increase and refine our visitors and more specifically determine their interests.

Candidly, our committee was very demanding. Susan, Drew and Philip with Paragon could have not been more discerning, creative, talented, responsive, patient and most importantly “unanxious!” They exceeded our very high expectations.

It was a pleasure working with this outstanding TEAM and we are honored to recommend our experience.

You can visit the site here.

4. Simple and Classy and a lil’ bit Sassy: Olive and Cocoa

oliveandcocoa

Keeping your design simple isn’t always easy, but in the case of boutique Olive and Cocoa it was absolutely necessary. This was another store that came to us through CommerceV3, You can view the site here.

SCAD Sidewalk Arts Festival 2009

Posted by Susan Isaacs

went-to-park

I spent Saturday afternoon wandering around Forsyth Park enjoying the annual Sidewalk Arts Festival. It was a ridiculously good-looking day: sunshine, throngs of people, dogs, bouncy things (for kids to play on)…overall happiness in the air.

I’ve been going to Sidewalk Arts just about every year since ‘97 (my first Spring in Savannah), and I have to say that this is truly a wonderful event. The art is colorful and fun, tons of folks come out to enjoy it and there is a lot for kids to do which means it’s an ideal event for families. The ambiance is really the thing that makes it rock!

Welcome James!

Posted by Susan Isaacs

jameslunch-sm

This is how funny photos end up on blogs…someone thinks it’s a grand idea to snap a group photo, then emails it to everyone they know, not realizing there is a naked dude or convenience store robbery in the background.

This is not as exciting…but I did force everyone to pose for a group shot when we went to lunch on James’ first day at Paragon. Upon closer inspection, it’s a weird photo, so I took the liberty to add a bit of commentary.

James, our Lead Digital Mercenary, is the newest member of the Paragon team….and if you’re not familiar with the rest of the gang, he’s the second from the left in the photo.

The Monday-After

Posted by Angel Ratcliffe

We are still on a high this Monday morning after the 2009 Addy Awards Friday night. We’re no Slumdog Millionaires, but we did manage to reign in 11 Addy Awards! That’s right… 3 Silvers, 5 Golds, and 3 Best of Categories! Between the wins, the lobster tail & steak dinner, plus the open bar, I’m gonna have to say it brings a whole new meaning to a Happy Monday.

Sometimes a facelift is just what the doctor ordered.

Welcome to our newly-youthful-looking blog.
We hope you like it!

Paragon celebrated its 7th Birthday this past weekend, and in honor of that special occasion we figured we needed to do a bit of cosmetic e-surgery. You know how it is…over time things tend to sag a bit…

Not only have we spit-shined the blog, but we’re also rolling out our new website on September 1st. We hope you’ll make a point to check it out when it “drops”. You can be sure that once that beast is slain, we’ll be doing a bit ‘o braggin’ on it right here, so keep and eye out for that post.

Poke around and have a look. We’d love to hear what you think!

Toot, toot!

Posted by Angel Ratcliffe

That’s the sound of us blowing our own horn. These posts are usually named, “Shameless Promotion.” Well, forget that.. What’s improper about stepping back and taking a good look at the fruit of your labor? And then showing it off to everyone else? It’s kinda like when people go around showing everyone pictures of their newborn baby. Like, “Hey, look what I made!” I’m guilty of it myself.
